Promoting learning, harnessing strength.
Using assessments as a tool to uncover how children and youth learn best and harnessing their strengths to inform educational programming and continued development is central to my work as a psychologist. I have spent the last 20 years as a faculty member at the University of Victoria, working with undergraduate, post-graduate, and graduate students preparing to work with neurodiverse children and youth in schools, clinics, and other community-based settings. This work has included training and supervision of academic and psychoeducational assessments in Special Education and Clinical Psychology.
I completed my PhD in School Psychology at UBC which included a year-long clinical internship at Sunny Hill Health Centre in Vancouver. During internship I worked on the Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions Team conducting comprehensive psychological assessments and programming recommendations for children with neurodevelopmental and complex medical/genetic conditions. I have been registered as a psychologist in B.C. since 2008 (CHCPBC #1834). Following my internship and while still completing my PhD, I worked for several years as a psychologist for the Surrey School District.

I am a strong proponent of research to practice connections within clinical and educational settings. Over the last two decades, I have also been conducting research on effective identification and intervention approaches for children and adolescents with learning disabilities, many of whom also have co-occurring conditions. I have a primary interest in the linguistic and neurocognitive bases of reading and writing disorders and risk for learning disabilities in children with speech/language delays and language disorders or in children acquiring an additional language.
I have two wonderful grown-up children, and I am thankful everyday for the privilege of calling Victoria and beautiful Vancouver Island home.
